Global Denim Awards 2014, a truly innovative initiative, paired six of the world’s premier denim mills with six emerging designers. Its aim is to connect talent and industry to create a directional platform for the future of denim design, innovation, sustainability and craftsmanship.

Sponsored and made possible by e3, this first-of-its-kind runway show and competition took place at Denim City, Amsterdam’s brand new innovation campus.

Arrived a bit early, models were still doing their final rehearsals.

Thanks to the people from HTNK for my last minute request to be able to attend this fantastic event.

Over-flowing alcohol and stylish people! Oh and cute barmen in Global Denim Awards shirt (want!)

20141029_195836_resizedOwning the runway before the show started…lol…hello, I want to join next year!

10712903_1551213181759158_4862331731122903979_nThe show started with Stefano Ughetti x Candiani ….very relaxed and laid-back but very dapper. The denim used were soft as linen, very Manila-friendly. Was seated beside a very stylish italian guy who was applauding and cheering so loud when Stefano’s collection came out, realized he was wearing the same suit as look number 3, at the end of the show found out he’s the owner of Candiani Denim, the mill who manufactured Ughetti’s collection.

Then it was Gizem Turan‘s “Eternity of delight” collection in collaboration with Bossa denim. Third came Jonathan Christopher‘s “The Nomadum” collection. Every look, i was screaming in my head “p*t@ng’na!” Amazing collection!!!! Denim came out in different forms. In one single piece, i think the denim underwent at least 10 treatments, the results were just breath-taking!

Fernanda Fernandes‘ collection “The serpent” was a colorful concoction of heavy denim and flowy printed chiffon. Great combo! Then came Bravesh Samji “Up in the air” which was a cool take on “glamping”. Then finally, Anneloes van Osselaer‘s very brave presentation of her “HIDE 3.0 x ASAP” collection. Chinky male models (mostly 5’2″-5’4″) were deliberately dwarfed further by van Osselaer’s fantastic humongous coats and cocoon jackets , the most conceptual and courageous among the 6, i must say!

Such a highly-impressive initiative, Manila we need this!

To the organizers, ahm, where do i send my application for next year?!? (haha) Kidding aside, this is seriously a great platform, the encouragement and energy of the organizers and all the people behind it is just awe-inspiring. (*hands-up, bows down)

Proudly wearing this cool Global Denim Awards shirt…no, i didn’t sleep with one of the gorgeous barmen…no, i didn’t steal it from him…LOL
